Your favourite crystal clear coating is available to be added onto our high-quality prescription lenses. Crystal clear works to reduce the glare from your lenses by minimising the amount of light that reflects off the lens surface, giving you optimum vision and clarity all day, everyday.
When light hits a smooth surface, such as an uncoated lens, it reflects in all directions, causing glare and reducing clarity of vision. This happens to approximately 8% of light that hits your lens, meaning that light never reaches your eyes to best support your vision.
Crystal clear is an anti-reflective (AR) coating made of multiple layers of metal oxides that are applied to the surface of the lens, generally both on the inside and outside of the lens. Each layer is designed to reduce the amount of light that is reflected off the lens surface. The thickness of each layer is carefully controlled to ensure that the coating is effective in reducing glare while maintaining optimum vision clarity.
When light hits the crystal clear coated lens, much of it will pass through to the next layer. While some of the light that passes may be reflected back, each successive layer reflects less light, resulting in significantly reduced glare by the time it reaches your eyes. As such, it is estimated that whereas regular lenses reflect 8% of light, those coated with crystal clear only reflect approximately 1%, leading to a notable improvement in your vision clarity.
As crystal clear also helps to improve the transmission of light through the lens, this may make the colours you see appear brighter and more vivid. This is particularly noticeable in low-light conditions, such as at night (including when driving), and in dimly lit environments.
